PORTABLE DOCUMENT FORMAT (PDF) GENERATING UTILITIES:

Problems frequently arise when transferring a document from one machine to another. Embedded objects and graphics can move and, if fonts have been used that are not installed on the destination machine, unpleasant font substitutions occur. Adobe PDF is the established industry standard method for avoiding these problems. All of the component parts, including fonts, are embedded in the document structure so that it displays and prints as you intended when composing on your own machine.

When handing off your manuscript for print, we strongly recommend submitting it in the PDF format. To this end we have made available some free PDF tools that you can download and install on your own workstation. Click on the file names to initiate the download. Choose 'Save to Disk' and write them to a destination you can locate later to perform the installations.

pdf995s.exe installs a PDF printer driver. To generate a PDF from your authoring application (like MS Word), go File, Print, and select PDF995 as the printer, then OK or PRINT. This will generate a PDF version of your document.

ps2pdf995.exe will convert a PDF document to an editable text document.

pdfedit.exe allows you to make layout changes within an existing PDF document.
